I am basically from Rajasthan having a permanent resident address of Calcutta and currently staying in Bangalore for my job….. Can I not say I belong to all these places???
I love all these places equally as some important part of my life is associated with all the places… I am proud to be called a Bangalorean…. A Bengali…. A Marwadi….
Other day I went to a walk in ShivajiNagar(a famous area in Bangalore). This walk was organized by a small group who were trying to highlight the ancient history of Bangalore which I getting lost because of the rapid urbanization….
We were walking as tourists… looking at each and every small lane, shop street with so much of intrigue…. Our group looked like a tourist group visiting from some other country as most of the people were foreigners…. We had cameras, sunglasses, caps and backpacks with us…
Shopkeepers actually asked us which place are u from…. I could just laugh at the question and one of group members answered “yaar yahin Bangalore ke hi hain….”
How funny it was… but it was a wonderful experience… I could never imagine myself going to such places on my own and would have not known about the history of such places also on my own… I am really thankful to the set of people who organized this free of cost walk investing so much of their time and energy in it….
Later that evening I was discussing with my friend about this and we shared that experience that we are so much proud to be Bangalorean… This is the city which has given us our individuality… this is the place where I got a bank account exclusively in my name… I have a house rent agreement which is in my name and not in father’s name… This is the place where people know me by my name…
I am very proud to belong to Calcutta also as that is the place I was born and brought up in… Whatever be bad about the city that still is my own…
I am proud to belong to Rajasthan as that is the place my ancestors have come from. We have some history associated with that place. Same way Bangalore is my own… I belong here…
That brings me to the question why do we get emotionally attached to some place/people and not to others… Its because we develop a sense of belonging with them…. I love Bangalore/Calcutta/Rajasthan as I consider them my own… Whatever u consider your own u tend to develop a sense of emotional bonding to it… It could even be a small materialistic possession of yours… When u make a thing/person your own you don’t care of the small small things of it/them that might irritate you….
I don’t like many things about my family too… but still its my own and I don’t care of those things I don’t like about them when I love them… Whatever is the conditions I still love them… Same way since I consider the place where I stay as my own I don’t crib about the bad things of the place.. Rather I would make all possible efforts from my side to improve the condition of the place I stay…….
This is the beauty of human mind…. To love a person/place all u have to do is develop a sense of belonging to it. U will automatically start loving…
Love comes along with the sense of belonging…. If u consider a person your own you would not have to think twice to love him/her. To stay with that person u would not have to consider other reasons. Just the love between those two people is enough…..
Really do we need more reasons to love someone if we consider them our very own………

A nice read on Belongingness.
Love Actually !!!
gr8 work... A blog filled with so much of love...now i have started loving ur blog :P
anjana, you are a sweetheart...so, you had a great time, huh? anyway, someone told me tht if you love someone you consider the one as an extension of yourself.thts exactly what i found you saying. its so true. But when you find tht there is something really unpleasant about your loved one, i feel u must let that be known to the other and leave it on their discretion but i totally agree tht love really is without any doubt or fear and changes never.
coming to a place that has given u a lot, u do develop a sense of belongingness and liking for it, i agree but when you say "whether th e place is good or bad, its my own", don't you think ultimately its only we who make it the way it is and if its not for its good then by saying that we are just being indifferent and unloving..guess i went too far..
the things tht u say are so drenched with love. i LOVE your loving heart
Keep blogging!
true love definitely transcends any barrier, however i believe no person is bad, it may be few behavioral things which others may dislike.
love life and live it, that includes things around you :)
